Dunn Graves

John Dunn Grave
On one of my visits to Durban I decided that I would go on a small pilgrimage and visit the Dunn graves.
The first grave I went to was John Dunn’s grave located at Emoyeni. Getting to the grave is not the easiest in a normal vehicle but it is accessible and it is on private land.
The grave was placed by the family in 1920. It is not recognised as a historical monument and as such is not maintained at all. This is something that I would like to see if it can be changed.

I then went down to Durban to visit the West Street Cemetery. After some research I found out that both Robert Newton Dunn and his wife Ann Harold Dunn were placed under the same tombstone.
Robert died a few years before Ann did, originally when he did he was buried in the Point Road cemetery, but his body was relocated to the West Street Cemetery in West street some years later. The reason for the relocation was due to development and growth of the point area.
Finding the grave was not the easiest thing to do because of the lack of good maintenance of the graveyard records. The graveyard itself was also in a little bit of disarray with the lack of grave markings and grave numbers.
After walking around the graves for some 45 mins, we eventually came across the tombstone. Looking at the video you will see that Robert Newton Dunn is listed at the top of the grave stone and Ann Harold Dunn is presented below that.
